We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Scientist/Senior Scientist/manager/associate director/director to support the development, optimization, and external manufacturing of small-molecule starting materials used in oligonucleotide synthesis. The ideal candidate will possess strong organic chemistry expertise, hands-on experience with synthetic route design and process optimization, and demonstrated capability in managing CRO manufacturing activities. This position plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality starting materials are delivered on time to support the company’s internal and external oligonucleotide development and manufacturing pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct literature review, synthetic route design, feasibility assessment, and process optimization for novel small-molecule compounds, with a focus on maximizing productivity, yield, and robustness.
- Manage and oversee external CRO partners engaged in small-molecule production, including daily communication, troubleshooting, monitoring manufacturing progress, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality materials.
- Ensure external manufacturing timelines align with internal project schedules and proactively identify/resolve risks that may impact material supply.
- Draft, review, and maintain SOPs and technical documentation related to small-molecule synthesis, process development, and manufacturing.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors or project leads.
Candidates with prior GMP small-molecule manufacturing experience or late-stage production experience are strongly preferred.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or above in Chemistry or related fields; strong background in organic chemistry preferred.
- Work experience: NLT 5 years for M.S.; NLT 2 years for PhD.
- Familiarity with standard synthetic chemistry operations and ability to follow established experimental procedures.
- Working knowledge of analytical instruments and their principles, including NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, LC-MS, pH meter, conductivity meter, HPLC, etc.
- Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
- Highly organized with good planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Preferred qualifications: 1) Experience in nucleotide chemistry or related fields; 2) Hands-on laboratory or industrial experience in small-molecule synthesis, scale-up, or process development; 3) Experience with GMP manufacturing or late-stage production of small molecules
